He’s found great success on the relocation team (closing 16+ homes from it in the last year!). Plus, he’s focused on building his own brand and business through his successful YouTube channel, impactful marketing, and innovation…all things the support team at ERA Grizzard helps him with every day.
But that’s not the whole story. Hear from Shawn himself what it’s been like to join the team and become the number 1 agent in his office for units and volume:
Q: What made you decide to join ERA Grizzard?
A: The brokerage I was with previously, right when the pandemic started, they shut their doors. So I was looking for a different opportunity and I was attracted to the family-owned aspect that
ERA Grizzard offers because the industry was kind of going online, and I like being in person and interacting with my colleagues. ERA provided that as well as the relocation aspect where I could have some kind of built-in business.
Q: Do you still find that family-oriented culture at ERA Grizzard today?
A: Yes, the culture at ERA is phenomenal. I’m involved heavily, I go to as many meetings and seminars as I can attend, and I know that’s appreciated, so that goes a long way.
Q: How has your growth been since joining ERA Grizzard?
A: My growth with ERA has been really fantastic. When I first started I don’t remember what kind of numbers I was writing or how many homes I was selling, but now I am in the top tier of production wise with ERA and I wanna continue that for my own business as well as I wanna be supportive and pay back all the support that they’ve given me to continue to grow my business.
I also have my own YouTube channel, so I’m growing my business and creating my own business that way as well. I want to kind of carve my own path and be different and have that reliability that I built this, but knowing that ERA is right behind me over the step of the way and will provide me with any tools that I might need to be able to do that, and that’s evident every day.
Q: What tools or resources at ERA Grizzard have made the biggest impact on your business?
A: The things that made a difference with ERA Grizzard were technology and in-person meetings. We have a lot of trainings available to us. Not everyone attends them because of our schedule, but they’re all available from the corporate level with ERA and as well right within our own brokerage. I could spend weeks in training and never hit the ground running, but it’s all available there for me: refresher courses, new technology... everything’s at our fingertips.
We have everything at our fingertips here, including the technology that pretty much everyone offers, but we’re trained on it individually. Each office will have its own training, so it’s not big 300 people in a room, you get individualized training.
We have a broker hotline that I can call and reach my broker, not some random person that can answer the phone, but I get Gus on the phone. We have a Marketing Suite that is just phenomenal because it has everything preloaded for us. That allows us to just plug and play things, and that helps me not have to learn how to navigate social media and figure out how to do things myself.
But the in person meetings and teachings of how to use everything we have available to us so we don’t have to figure it all out ourselves. It’s live and in person and in small groups, which you just don’t get at virtually any other brokerage.
Q: Can you tell us about your experience working on the relocation team?
A: My experience on the relocation team has been amazing. It’s been a very big part of my business personally. I’m willing to cover all of Central Florida, so I get a lot of business that others would turn down.
Plus, I get to meet people from all different backgrounds and experiences. It’s really neat helping guide them through that experience and being part of that time in their life. In the last 12 months, I’ve actually closed on 16 homes from being on the relocation team, and was also named Top Corporate Listing Converter.
Q: How has Gus (the ERA Grizzard Broker/Owner) been involved in your business?
A: Gus has been involved in my business heavily. He asks me to speak sometimes at meetings or asks my point of view. I suggest changes that make sense on the agent side, and he’s implemented a lot of ideas I’ve shared which is really rewarding. Next week we’re going to Austin to our corporate event, and he’s also going to be there side by side with us and supporting our team.
Q: What would you tell an agent thinking about making a change?
A: I get approached a lot by newer agents and experienced agents looking to make a change. At ERA there’s such culture and it’s live and in person. We have online classes and training opportunities but having that in-person support and a broker that’s involved and knows everyone’s name makes a difference.
One of the biggest takebacks I have is when I joined the team they had a mixer and I knew who Gus was, but he came right over to me. We had never met before and he shook my hand really firmly and said welcome to the team, and that made a big impact on me. So I want to kind of pay that forward to new agents or agents looking for that culture aspect.
