The Story Advantage: A Simple Video Format Built to Make Your Story Memorable

Most agents have a story worth putting on camera. What stops them is the idea of talking straight into a lens, memorizing lines, and looking polished enough to post, and that alone is enough to make anyone put it off another week. The good news is the format that's performing best right now doesn't ask you to do any of that.

Instead of an on-camera talking video, this format pairs a simple voiceover, recorded the same way you'd leave a voice memo, with B-roll footage of you going about your normal day. There's no script to memorize on camera and no need for a ring light or a fancy setup. It's just your real voice telling a short, honest story about your business, layered over video of you actually living it.

It works because it separates the hardest parts of video content. Instead of trying to sound natural, remember your lines, and look good on camera all at once, you record your voice by itself when you're comfortable and can redo it as many times as you want.

Then you record simple footage separately, whenever it's convenient. Put them together, and it looks like a produced video, even though making it never required more than a phone.

LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT AN EXAMPLE…

STEP 1: WRITE YOUR STORY

Start with the story you want to tell, not a script you need to perform. This works best when it's a genuine moment from your business: what led you into real estate, a turning point with a customer, or the belief that now drives how you work. Use this as a starting point, then make it your own:

Hi, I'm [INSERT NAME], [INSERT A PERSONAL FACT — example: mom/dad of 3, dog mom/dad, local foodie, hobby or interest], a REALTOR® with [INSERT BROKERAGE], and a proud [INSERT LOCAL AREA] expert. For [X] years now, I've been serving [INSERT YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE AND HOW YOU SERVE THEM — example: sellers looking to start their next chapter].If you're looking for your next place to call home, I [INSERT THE SERVICES YOU OFFER HOMEBUYERS]. If you're thinking of selling, I [INSERT THE SERVICES YOU OFFER HOMESELLERS]. And I'm proud to offer local homeowners [INSERT THE SERVICES YOU OFFER HOMEOWNERS]. So if any of this sounds like what you're looking for, know that I'm here to be your local real estate guide.

Tip: Read it out loud a few times and adjust the wording until it sounds like you talking, not you performing.

STEP 2: RECORD IT

Record your voiceover first, using your phone's voice memo app or a tool like CapCut, somewhere quiet.

Then go collect B-roll separately: walking into a listing, sitting at your desk, driving through a neighborhood you know well, or just going through a normal part of your day. You don't need a shot list. A few clips, ten to fifteen seconds each, are plenty.

STEP 3: EDIT IT TOGETHER

Layer the voiceover underneath the B-roll in any basic editing app on your phone. Add captions, since most people scroll with the sound off.

Then it's ready to post!

STEP 4: PUT IT TO WORK FOR YOU

Once you record this video, you can put it to work well beyond a single post. Use it on your website, add to your bio pages, share it across your social platforms, and include it in an email series that introduces you to new customers. It's a great way to make a connection while letting people get to know you in a low-pressure way!
