AI Isn’t The Problem
It’s how it’s being used that makes agents forgettable
AI has made it easier than ever for agents to keep up with their marketing. You can open ChatGPT, type in a quick prompt, and have a caption, email, or idea ready in seconds. For a lot of agents, that’s exactly how it’s being used right now. It’s fast, it checks the box, and it keeps things moving.
The issue is, when you rely on it that way, your marketing starts to lose what actually makes it effective. Scroll through social, and you’ll quickly come across content from agents that all sounds the same.
That’s not because AI doesn’t work. It’s because it’s being used without enough direction.
And if your marketing doesn’t reflect you and your market, it’s not going to help you stand out or bring in business.
START WITH YOUR INPUT, NOT AI’S OUTPUT
What separates strong AI-driven marketing from forgettable content usually comes down to what you give it to work with in the first place.
A broad prompt will almost always lead to a broad result. If you ask for a caption about buying or selling, you’ll get something that sounds basic and doesn’t reflect you or your market.
Instead, give ChatGPT more context including:
Here’s a prompt you can copy:
“I’m a real estate agent in [location]. I’m working on [task or content type], and I need a [format—description, checklist, script, etc.] written in a [tone] voice. My audience is [buyer/seller/relocating clients/etc.], and here are the details: [insert bullet points or notes].”
What that looks like as a real example:
“I’m a real estate agent in a suburban area. I need help writing a short welcome message for a new buyer who just signed a client agreement. Please make it sound friendly and helpful, and mention that I’ll guide them step-by-step through the process.”
USE AI TO EXPAND YOUR KNOWLEDGE, NOT REPLACE IT
One of the most effective ways to use AI is to treat it as a tool for organizing and expanding what you already know, rather than relying on it to generate ideas for you.
You already have insight into your market, your clients, and the way you guide people through decisions. That’s the part that makes your marketing valuable. AI simply helps you communicate it more clearly and efficiently.
For example, if you regularly recommend a few specific neighborhoods to a certain type of buyer, you don’t need AI to come up with that for you. You can give it those neighborhoods and ask it to turn them into short, well-written descriptions or social media posts that highlight the lifestyle or features you want to emphasize. The structure becomes easier, but the insight is still yours.
The same idea applies to your voice.
If you’ve written something that feels natural, whether it’s a past caption, an email, or a paragraph from your website, you can use that as a reference point. Asking AI to match that tone creates a much more consistent result than trying to adjust everything afterward.
This is where AI becomes a real advantage. It allows you to take what you already know and turn it into something more polished and repeatable without losing the parts that make it yours.
WHAT ACTUALLY MAKES THE DIFFERENCE
There’s no doubt that AI is worth using. It can save you time, help you stay consistent, and take the pressure off starting from scratch. But if you want your marketing to actually stand out, it can’t be the only voice in the process.
The difference comes from how much direction and feedback you give it. The more you shape it, refine it, and adjust it to reflect how you actually communicate, the better the end result becomes.
If you don’t want your content to sound like everyone else’s, you can’t treat AI like a one-step solution. When you approach it in a tailored way, it becomes a tool that helps you create marketing that feels true to you.
